The Boomerang Gang

When life called Mitch Hooper to Brisbane nine years ago, it felt right to answer.

At the time, he was working as an Intermediate Accountant in the Bundaberg office, a role he’d progressed into after having originally joined us in 2007 as a trainee.

Life was pointing Mitch towards Brisbane. The only problem? At the time, Ulton’s Brisbane office didn’t yet exist.

So, after seven great years with Ulton, Mitch decided it was time to say goodbye and start a new chapter in the big city.

Over the next nine years, Mitch worked at four different firms of various sizes. Until February of this year, when Mitch boomeranged back to Ulton, rejoining the team as an Assistant Manager in the Brisbane office.

Mitch isn’t the only member of the Boomerang Gang. He’s in good company with the likes of Natasha Cook, Jacky Elliot, Jason Krenske, Stacey Gleadhill, Debbie Rayner, Hayden Shield, and Jack Deane (Morgans) all waving the Boomerang Gang flag.

So what’s the reason so many of our people find their way back to us? According to Mitch, there’s not one reason why – there’s many.

“I’ve worked at a few different firms now, and Ulton has always remained the benchmark for me. The level of support, the opportunities to get to know other people socially, and the recognition they provide is something I haven’t come across anywhere else,” said Mitch.

“Ulton just has the processes, the support structures, and the education opportunities in place to really develop a team it can rely on,” he said.

“For me, it’s always really set the bar in terms of the social side too – they put a lot of effort into organising events – race days, Christmas parties, team retreats – these things have always really been something to write home about.”

Guess who? Flash back to 2011 - Mitch Hooper at the Ulton Christmas party at the Spinnaker. Theme 1920's fancy dress.

“I had experienced all of this firsthand in my first tenure here and I’d kept in touch with other people who’d continued on at Ulton after I’d left, who told me that all the good things I remembered are still very much a part of the Ulton way,” he said

It’s always equally insightful and humbling to hear from Mitch, and other Boomerang Gang members, about the value they see in Ulton, how this has stood the test of time, and eventually led them back into our fold, so many years later.

In the same vein, it’s also rewarding to see even those team members who don’t boomerang back to us, continue into their next chapters with genuine gratitude for their experiences of life at Ulton.

To see this in-action, the latest Satisfaction and Engagement Survey revealed that over 85% of Ulton's team members believe that Ulton is truly a great place to work.

But what makes us even happier than seeing the encouraging statistics – is knowing that our people truly enjoy being here with us.

In the case of our Boomerang Gang, their positive experiences have been powerful enough to lead them back to us, years later.

To the Boomerang Gang – Mitch, Natasha, Jacky, Jason, Stacey, Debbie, Hayden and Jack – thank you for being here. We couldn’t be happier to have you back.
