From little things big things grow, the beloved Paul Kelly anthem could be Natalie Macdonald’s career theme song.
Natalie joined Ulton in December 2000 as a trainee, attained her accounting degree, completed her CA, took time off to travel, had a family, went part-time, returned to full-time and is now a partner at the Fraser Coast office.
Natalie, along with Jamie Rach, manages the workflow for business services teams across the firm, assigning and overseeing jobs while ensuring the workload is spread evenly among the company’s resources.
“It’s a great place to work, I love what I do,” she enthuses.
“I’ve been given a myriad of opportunities with lots of support for continued development. I look at where the jobs are, where the work is and what our capacity is, including our remote workers. We share the work around, leveraging people’s skillset.”
She started work in Maryborough, moved to Gladstone where she stayed for 14 years and then relocated to the Fraser Coast in 2020.
“An accountant never stops learning and that’s been my experience with the firm and the team,” Natalie said.
“We are a high achieving lot in the Fraser Coast, we motivate each other, and everyone likes a laugh which makes the day-to-day enjoyable. Stefan recently moved to Adelaide, but is still working with us remotely, which is working out well.
“Through our informal information sharing we keep up-to-date with each other’s clients which keeps them top of mind and means we can have a break or a holiday, knowing the clients are still being looked after.”
Describing her role as “busy and challenging” Natalie balances work with time spent with family, walks on the beach and F45 workouts.
“The future’s pretty bright, we have a good culture, we ride out the ebbs and flows.”
